REV. ISREAL OLUDITUN
You should know that when we talk about some families, we are talking about a power house in it's entirety
The House of the Kutis is one that came with a powerful and rich history of stories and achievements
Little did I know till I stumbled on the story of Reverend Isreal Oludotun Ransome Kuti who happened to be husband to Madam Fumilayo Ransome Kuti and then Father to Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Israel was born on April 30, 1891 in Abeokuta, Ogun State and he was the first or Pioneer President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers
He completed his primary and secondary school education at Lagos Grammar School and Abeokuta Grammar School respectively before proceeding to Fourah Bay College, Freetown where he bagged his undergraduate degree
He came back to Nigeria in 1916 to begin his career first as a class teacher at Abeokuta Grammar School until 1918 when he left Abeokuta.
He later became the principal of Ijebu Ode Grammar School for thirteen years
In 1931, Israel was appointed as the pioneering President of the then newly formed Nigeria Union of Teachers, a position he held until his retirement in 1954.
The famous Kuti Hall at the University of Ibadan which opened in 1954, was named after Israel Oludotun Ransome-Kuti.
He died in his residence in Abeokuta in 1955, his death was that of cancer-related illness..
