SILENCE OF THE STREETS - GOODIEWRITERS

SILENCE OF THE STREETS  The streets no longer cry!  It has become lonely and tranquil as a graveyard I miss the gathering of men round the table shouting, 'bring more bottles '. The ladies in their cliques telling the tales of Dennis  The streets no longer cry!  It is now like the tales of the moonlight  like the tick tock the traffic light blinks  Yet, motorist to horn at passersby who walk majestically on the high way  We have become the shadow of ourselves  The rich in their tents, having no location for their vacation and the masses hoping for a drop of water to quench their thirst  Oh! how could I forget?  The days we wished schools were over just to go home and eat well prepared dishes but now, we have eaten more than enough  The streets no longer cry!  Where all our market women who joyously awaits the 'morrow for a fresh sale?  The streets no longer cry! At the sight of a child crossing the road with a ...

TO MY CHEATING HUSBAND - KING DAVID

To my cheating Huband - Melissa, your once upon a time wife.  My soul cries, My heart bleeds, I can't speak, I resort to words.  You broke my heart, How wicked thou art, I took you away from the mat, Now how tragic is the aftermath. You cheat! A cheapskate with no shit, I gave you all despite your stink, Yet I'm repayed with my soul caused to sink. I remembered your vow on the holy altar, Without mercy you made my heart flutter, My smiles that day, now I start to wonder, Alas! The vows you made thrown into deep waters. I'd cry till my lacrimal glands stop working, Till there are no more tears but regrets, Till there are no more words but action,  Then will I leave you to your bad deeds  Misery shall befall you when you find this, And with bent knees I say this, For you took pleasure in my breast,  You shall run and find no rest, May your bad deeds bring you distress, And no other bosom shall give you rest   In one quick swoop, Melissa glances th...

I CAN NOT BREATHE - AYOMIKUN MISHAEL AFOLAYAN

BREATHE "I can't breathe". Those were the words he uttered Before his life was snuffed out. "I can't breathe". Those were the words that he uttered Before his life was ended, under the knee of a police officer. He groaned in pain, Pinned to the ground, Unable to move, Unable to breathe, Losing the power, The will to live. And as he gave up, As his life ebbed into nothingness, He sparked a change, a movement. He sparked the cry of a people, Stifled by years, decades of  oppression and racisim By years, decades of unfiltered bigotry and prejudice. "We can't breathe!", they chant. "We can't breathe!". And I wonder, If the knee will still be on the neck, Restricting the freedom of a people. And I wonder, If the knee will still be on the neck, Pressing the life out of a people. I wonder, If the knee will ever be removed, If an entire race will be able to live, to breathe. Ayomikun Mishael Afolayan
